For almost 30 years, I had the privilege of photographing Dame Olivia Newton-John.

I first met Olivia in 1994 when I was commissioned to shoot publicity stills for her acclaimed television series Wild Life. Some of our adventures included whale observation in British Columbia, documenting the plight of orphaned baby bears in the forests of Northern Russia and the stunning wild white horses of Camargue, in France.

I’ve captured many other amazing occasions in Olivia’s career such as, her many fundraising and awareness campaigns, so many concerts where I got to see the devotion of her fans and the love they get back from Olivia, through her amazing talent. In just one incredible week on the road, I captured Olivia having tea with astronaut Buzz Aldrin, discussing conservation with Prince Albert of Monaco, dining with legendary photographer Helmut Newton and even her interview with former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev at his office in Moscow. All as the observer of a great and deeply caring soul.

Then there are, of course, the countless portraits I’ve taken of Olivia for album covers and other publicity purposes. Olivia has said : ‘Some of my favorite photos are ones taken by Michelle. We have developed a great rapport and have a lot of fun as two ‘girls’ together.’

I agree! But it was easy to photograph Olivia, not only because she was incredibly beautiful but also because she was a lovely, positive and hardworking person.

As someone who was born in Australia’s Capital Canberra, I’ve been lucky enough to be described as “one of Australia’s elite celebrity photographers”. In 2014, I was one of those selected to take part in an exhibition of celebrity portraits at The National Portrait Gallery.

It has been a great pleasure to collect together some of my favorite portraits of our beloved Olivia. An even greater pleasure to share them with all of you, her adoring fans.
